How to Make the Sauce

  1. In a saucepan, heat the olive oil over low to medium heat.
  2. Add the halved onion and smashed garlic. Let them cook slowly until fragrant.
  3. Pour in the passata and add the 200ml of water.
  4. Season with salt, pepper, and bay leaves.
  5. Cover, reduce to a low simmer, and cook for 45 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add more water if needed.

How to Make the Grass-Fed Meatballs

  1. In a large bowl, mix the beef mince, basil, garlic powder, and salt.
  2. Gradually add the breadcrumbs while mixing with your hands. You want a moist mixture that holds its shape.
  3. Roll into small meatballs, around 50g each—you’ll get about 10.
  4. Place on a lined baking tray, spoon some of the tomato sauce over each, and top with cheese if using.

Bake to Perfection

  • Preheat your oven to 200°C fan-forced
  • Bake the meatballs for 20 minutes, or until cooked through and golden on top
